The picture above is the traditional view of Venus. This picture was taken by the spacecraft Mariner 10. Below is a Hubble Space Telescope picture of Venus, taken in false color.

 

 

Because Venus is obscured by clouds, scientists use Radar to determine what Venus' surface must look like.

The colorful picture on the left is a radar image of the entire planet. On the right is a close up of one of the rift valleys on Venus' surface.
