Unlike the neighboring gas giants, Pluto is a terrestrial planet, made mostly of rock and ices. Because of its extreme distance from the Sun, Pluto is very difficult to observe. The best images available today are these two (above and below) from the Hubble Space Telescope- the larger "dot" is Pluto, and the smaller "dot" is Pluto's moon, Charon.
